Just was wanting some feedback on this since by the end of next year I will be (hopefully) leaving to college. I live in California (close to San Diego about 180 mi or less). The Art Institute of San Diego seems like a really good school to jump into for art (graphic design). Any alumni from there? Any present students? Anyone have any information for me other than the representatives of the school (or branch) just wanting to get me to go because they will benefit in someway? I am open to hearing comments either good or bad. I just want to know what I will be getting myself into (again either good or bad). So far I have heard nothing but good comments on AI of San Diego and AI just in general.
Just a side note...
I chose to goto this school other than the one in LA (art institute of los angeles in santa monica) because I know my way around San Diego more, I am a Charger fan, and the nice scenery everywhere.

What I can tell you, is that all art school's are businesses first. They aren't going to hold your hand and make sure you learn what you need to learn or make sure you come out a great artist. If the school's any good, they'll make sure the information and resources are available, and the rest is up to you. You really need to be hardworking and self-motivated to get the most out of it.
Just learn to seek out criticism of your work. Constantly ask, "what are my weaknesses, and what are my strengths?" and then divide your time accordingly. And don't get defensive about your artwork. If you find youself defending your work to an instructor, you're no longer listening to the critique (and not really learning). Two years after you get out of art school you'll think that everything you did there is crap anyway, so just open your mind to any and all crits. If you keep these things in mind, you can get the most out of any art school. Good Luck! _________________ Smokey, this is not 'Nam this is bowling. There are rules. |
