I'm probably not the only one wondering about this...

I'm currently looking for representation. I finally feel my artwork is up to snuff, I'm just really bad at marketing and finding clients. Can anyone here recommend any reps or agencies, and does anyone have any advice on the subject?

Thanks, and happy holidays.

I noticed you already wrote at Conceptart.
You should maybe have more specific questions if the thread by tegehel doesn't cut it.
(Getting a job in the game industry)

You can also check out the wetcanvas forum.
There are sections about sales strategies and so on ... don't know how good they are though.
http://wetcanvas.com/forums

Your question about the online portfolio ... I think there shouldn't be so many different layouts for one webpage.
But I guess you will link directly to your portfolio not to the webpage!?
Still then I'd remove the link to the pin-ups.

In the portfolio I can hardly read the font of the links.
And the about section seems weird.

On the index site I didn't see the "Current Projects" and "Latest Work" titles because of the alignment (right instead of left).
So I didn't know what the content was about.

I can hardly recognize anything in the preview images.
I think this results in a bad first impression.
Most of the time when I followed a link I was disappointed.

The link to Pixels is broken I guess.
I think "Wallpapers", "Web Sites", "Design", "Photos", "Renders", "Digital" and "Traditional" is a little too much.
I'd rearrange the cathegories ... make it look more organized.

I know comments like that are discouraging because changing things like that is a lot of work.
But I think it needs to be said. The website is a little overwhelming in a not-so-good way.

Make the website simpler and add more content if possible.
A good example for a portfolio is http://www.robertocampus.com

yeah, i probably should've specified the portfolio in particular. But remove the link to the pin-ups? Why so?

Why can't you read the font on the menu? Is it the contrast? What resolution are you running at?

Hmm... you just might be right. I'll have to rearrange that and see how it looks. Thank god for style sheets.

Dissappointed with what exactly?

Wow. That's weird. I didn't even realize the index page of the portfolio section still had that part. On the rest of the site it's updated. Hahah. Forest for the trees I guess.

I can't think of a better way to organize that. If you've got a suggestion, let me know. Right now I'm thinking I might have to put a link to a "best of" section that'll have something from each part, all together on one page.

It's all good. I embrace constructive criticism. How else are we to improve right? Thanks so much. And damn you for pointing out another artist I need to hunt down and eat the brains of. ;D

I think I'll take a closer look and write more. Suggestions for example.
I could have done that in the first post but people react to this kind of criticism differently.
Not sure how much I'll write ... it might take a while.

To answer one question ... I followed the links to resume, portfolio and pin-ups.
There are no elements that connect them. So I have to adapt to the different layouts.

And right ... I can hardly read the font because of the contrasts.

I'd make the sentences shorter and catchy.

You can make the pages less overwhelming by separating some things more and grouping others.
For example showing the relation between "welcome", "work" and "current projects".
And making the links to samples stick out.
Maybe you can integrate current projects and finished projects in "work" somehow!?
Or make a projects category and current and finished as sub categories.
Dunno.

I'd either remove the gallery navigation or find another way to integrate it.

When I click gallery I don't only expect 2 sentences. I'd add links there too
(or only there!?)

Another example of grouping and separating.
I'd separate the the text from the samples with explanation.
I know showing the images on different sides makes it more interesting/balanced.
But the relation between the examples is lost.
I'd show that the samples are related by using some elements in the same way.
In the above example I used the names.
And I removed the horizontal rule.

The texts are too long I guess ... I just didn't try to fix that.
At least I'd put less words in one row. Long rows of words are intimidating
(at least I think so)
I expect longer texts in the about section.

Hope it helps ... hope you get what I'm talking about.
If you don't ... just ask.

About being disappointed ... I just followed the wrong links.
Content is ok ... maybe not enough in the art section.
Or maybe there should only be 2 categories instead of 5
(only digital and traditional for example)
