Firstly, I've been a Pete Molyneux fanboy since the days of Populous, so I was really looking forward to Black and White 2... however...
Has anyone else been having the same problems with B&W2 as I (and seemingly tons of other players) have had with this game?
First problem... after about 30 mins playing or so, my PC completely cold-resets. I mean total shutdown and restart. No warning, just *poof*, it's gone!!!
I'm running Battlefield2, Half-Life 2 and other games with full detail and CPU intensive sections with not even the slightest hint of a crash and XP runs like a clockwork.
Second problem... it crashed during an autosave and now I can't play as my default profile, which means I have to play the whole game from the start and go through hours of patronising tutorials that you can't even skip, and instead have to sit through hours of your in-game conscience telling you how your mouse works!!!
Word to the wise, wait for a couple of months for a demo or to see if EA and Lionhead get their act together before shelling out for this game.
I'm only glad that the store I bought it from do returns. |

Have you installed patch 1.1 yet? I heard it saves some pretty hefty bugs, but take care, at the same time it makes all old savegames useless.
Somehow I think we might not actually see a Black and White 3. Part one really disappointed pretty much everyone, but with shit like that they even scare away the players who actually put up with their shitty tutorial-forcing and controls.
I wont even bother to download the demo, after having read that this one has most of the same quirks as part one and is basically just a somewhat improved, graphically advanced version.
If I was you Id write lionhead a short email at least, to let them know about your disappointment. That way they hear first hand feedback about why their shit doesnt sell at least. |

gLitterbug: Thanks man, but I think the response they're getting on their own forums is enough and I expect most emails are going to be ignored. So I'll probably just vote with my feet. I have a window of about 10 days to take the game back to the shop for a refund and I doubt a patch will come out before then.
Well, I did a completely clean installation, installed the 1.1 patch, installed the latest Catalyst drivers and de-fragged my HD.
It's doing a bit better, but I still get freezes and lock-ups.
Feeling you have to save game every 5 minutes isn't really any way to play a game. I don't trust the autosave after the last time it corrupted the profile.
It's a good game, but these problems are sincerely annoying.
I know there are a couple of Lionhead artists who sometimes drop by here. Gordillo and Summer_Pudding, if you guys read this, the game is beautiful and the presentation is top notch, but something in the code is making the game unplayable, so I hope this post isn't taken offensively. The aesthetics of the game are excellent.
But I've spent money in good faith on something which seems to be having major problems on many PCs.
annisahmad: I'm wondering if there's a correlation between AMD64 systems and ATI All-In-Wonder cards. Alot of people with freeze/reboots seem to have a similar setup? |

You know, apart from that bug stuff being really annoying, at least its something you cant just decide not to do. It could always happen I guess. I do wonder though what Mr. Molyneux thinks when sticking to his tutorial forcing and the "innovative" controls that alot of people have problems with. In the interviews Ive seen him in, he always sounds really clever and like he totally knows about what games should be to give you fun only.
That aside hes still one of the few gaming celebrities that I admire. |
