Just saw it. I can't imagine what everyone is complaining about on AICN. I thought it was a very worthy followup to X2. It wasn't quite as good, but it was satisfiable in every way. I won't go into spoilers, but there are some shocking deaths, and surprising de-powerings.

Be sure you hang out until after the credits roll.

What did everyone else think?

I have to agree. I liked it, but I did think it was a bit much in some regard - when compared to the others; it was really out there in terms of action sequences and such, but I found it an enjoyable film nonetheless. It was entertaining, and I am glad I saw it.

As for AICN; it can be a good resource for information, spoilers, and I visit regularly; however, I get the impression that Harry Knowles and his confederates all play heavily into Hollywood favoristism. Based on what I read, you'd think they all sleep with Bryan Singer, Speilberg, Cruise and whoever, whenever . . . it's al opinions anyway. Knowles played Pitch Black up as one of the best scifi movies he'd ever seen; I didn't think so; it was ok but not all the hoopla he played it up to be. The same could be said about X3 as well - no one at AICN seem to have anything of merit to say about it since Ratner took over, but I thought it was a good effort and well done. It wasn't stellar but it was good, me thinks.

Go see it and judge for yourself.

I saw the first showing at midnight Thursday. I don't think it was a stinker (it was certainly no Fantastic Four), but it made me appreciate the first two movies a little more. I felt that this movie was all comic book bombast: superheroes using superpowers on a grandiose scale. What Bryan Singer and nerd laureate David Hayter managed with the first two movies were much more subtle. They wisely downplayed the superhero aspect, knowing that there were 40 years worth of comics that handle it much better than any movie could. Instead, they focused on the story of superhumans and how they contrast with a world that doesn't understand them.

But all blah blah blah aside, after I got out of X3 I went home and watched Akira. All of the Phoenix saga stuff felt trite and left me wanting pyschokinesis with gusto.

i thought it was a very worthy film, although it doesnt surpass x2. Nonetheless i would recommend it strongly.

SPOILER...well not really but it might be if your thinking the same thing.

I was disapointed that there werent any "real" sentinels. I dont know why, but i had this perception that this movie was going to bring them in...

Precisley what I meant by being a "bit too much." The action sequences were so hollywood.

Dead on, man - well said.

BUT it was an entertaining movie.

Good point, Impaler, BUT........

The first two were subtle, yes. I think it was time to show them let loose. We finally see why the humans "hate and fear them".

I mean, moving the Golden Gate Bridge? f'n A man, F'N A!

One thing I couldn't quite figure out-

Did Raven (Mystique) tell the government where to find the Brotherhood out of spite, or was she still working for Magneto- giving him a diversion?

That whole moving the bridge thing - I mean, really - was that necessary? Magneto may be maniacal, but ripping up and moving a national landmark just to cross the damn waterway? Hollywood.

But it was still fun. I'm not complaining, really!

I wished they chose to film it at some compound in some miscellaneous place.

Well, regardless of anyone's opinion, everyone's money has spoken to Fox.

$170 Million opening on Memorial Day weekend. A new record, and no other "event" movie competition until Superman.

I still liked it, regardless of obvious flaws. I'm a fan of action movies. It was maybe a bit too dramatic in a sense, but I liked the conflict between Gene and Wolverine. I'm new here, by the way. Hope that doesn't make too much of a difference.
