i have a question about planning out the compositional elements of a scene/painting ect ect.
when i want to start a composition i think about ways to emphasis the focus of the painting...trying to guide the viewers eyes with vectors and lights and darks, color selection and the overall lighting setup.
do u guys feel that doing tons of thumbnails (quick sketches about the idea of a piece...sorta like a rough blueprint)is the best way tpo go about planning a composition? my instructors say so, but my roomate just throws them out on the screena nd BANG he's gotta painting. its awesome.
so...tell me about your processes. do u just let the composition fall togther? domu plan it to the last eyelash? ect ect...

I'd say it's always a safer route doing a very rough composition at first, but I'm pretty sure after experience(or better perception of things) one should be able to just put things together... |
