Hey there.
I'm not sure how far this news spreads outside of the UK, but I thought I'd make a post here and just say something...
Anyway, I don't know if any of you know this, but last week the First Minister of Scotland, Donald Dewar MSP passed away suddenly.
This news actually hit me harder than I expected. I mean, hell, he was only a politician, right?
Well, yes and no. It is very possible that Donald Dewar is the only honest politician I have ever come across. He was a man of high integrity, who fought tooth-and-nail for my country, and was the man who pushed through the recent formation of a parliament for Scotland separate to that in Westminster.
The man stood up for all that is noble in politics, and managed to rise to the top without being tainted by the power. He was the only humble political leader that I have ever heard of, and the fact that he is now gone makes me worry about the future of politics in Scotland.
It amazes me that just about everyone in Scotland either came into direct contact with him, or knows someone who did. What other country in the world can boast to have had a leader THAT in touch with his people?
Anyway, his funeral was today, and I'm feeling a wee bit emotional about the whole thing. Nothing's really ever affected me like this before, so I thought I'd share.
Don't really expect many replies to this, but if you want to ask who he was, or say anything about him, that'd be cool.
Oh, there's a nice eulogy on my university's web site:
