hop
there's something wrong, tell me what before i proceed further ;)
i find it hard to try and show perspective/form, as the light is coming pretty much from everywhere (cloudy day)
perhaps adding different scale details would help define perspective, but i dont want to get into details before the overall look is better.
i like some of the colors, but something's weird there too.. perhaps too much same
saturation ? or something. aesch.
well not too much overall contrast either.
yes, the wannabe castle sucks bigtime
there's some photo reference used, but not a 1 to 1 copy.
OBVIOUSLY =)

Uhm.. there's some book about landscape painting that had info on this kind of stuff. I remember something about using a colder color (not necessarily darker) for the shadowy face to bring it out. If I remember correctly the book was called Painting the Landscape (or something similar). But there's a ton of books written about the same subject imho.
just my two cents :|

it has potentials. Things I react on is: Everything is too fluffy, some sharp shadows and edges, something up the mountains that breaks up the form, like rocks, etc would be nice. Also, shadow color is very much the same as in the light, makes it look a bit boring. Also, picture looks flat, I guess it's much because the mountains have been shaded so softly that it's hard to get a feeling of perspective and depth. Aumh, this is not my area of expertise anyway, so I should shut up. spooge or loki should help you on this
Will you try to improve it ? If so, be sure to post the next version.

Oh yeah, when painting an object with a shadowy side, it should have a bit of the object color's complement in it, ie. an orange object has a slightly blue-tinted shadow and so on. |
