both pics were done in photoshop 5.5
for the boat I used fotoreference
for the face there were no ref at all

hmmm.. somehow colours on the face are fucked up in IE (it's all grainy now)

Looks like you saved the files with regular dithering instead of error diffusion dithering. That may be causing the graininess.
I like it though. The face looks like it was painted on canvas with oils  It's a sharp difference from the obvious photoshop artifacting from the brushstrokes in the first pic (which is nicely lit too!)

Was it Carravagio that painted himself as the beheaded gorgon? If so, the face picture reminds me of that style.

Sergenth - how to change dithering on saving?
A.Buttle - Carravagio? I've never heard of him, but believe me... he is imitating my style.. err even if he lived before Christ :P
