did anyone else have problems with it?

after I installed it (yeah I know, never change a running system) sound did not work any more.

I tried everything from installing different language versions to installing the newest soundcard drivers from creative.

still nothing.

midi works, cd output too.

I am totally lost and have no idea what to do..
of course I should edit my band's last concert recording THIS week-
how else could it be :/

anyone got help to offer or similar problems?

Have you looked for a way of deinstalling it?

You might wanna try the system files checker of windows: Start->Programs->Accessories->System tools->System Information->Tools

god did it suck and cause trouble *cough*

exactly.

Excerpt from direct X FAQ:

Q. I'm looking for earlier versions of DirectX but can't find any. Where are they?

A. DirectX 8.0 has been released, so we no longer provide earlier versions of DirectX. Please download DirectX 8 instead. The home user run time is upwardly compatible with earlier versions.

yeah right. as compatible as linux to windows.

ragnarok: thanks but there was nothing associated with directx.

uninstalling is not possible:

Q. How do I uninstall DirectX?

A. DirectX 8.0 is a system component and cannot be uninstalled. If there is a problem with the DirectX install, it can normally be resolved by shutting down all running applications and reinstalling. As mentioned previously, DirectX 8.0 is fully backward-compatible with titles written for previous versions of DirectX.

"ragnarok: thanks but there was nothing associated with directx."
The program I pointed checks all system files, if one is broken it repairs it, so if the problem is a file it should have repaired it.
If it is compatibility then I don't know what to do. You might wanna look in deja news

the sysinfo does not show any conflicts. I guess it will be a compatibility problem (because the made some super l33t new audio whateverthing and that seems to be the problem).

I'll check dejanews and I'll try to delete the directx dll's for sound manually and replace them with the 7.0 version
